WW2

World War 2 started in 1939 and ended in 1945. 85  million people died. They had 8 types of guns in WW2 they were M1918 BAR and a Bren Infantry LMG and a Thompson Submachine Gun and a The Sten Gun and a PPSh-41 and a  Colt 1911 and a  Lee-Enfield Rifle. Canadian Sgt and a M1 Garand. In 1940.  The population of nz was 1.6 million people and 104 thousand men and woman served in ww2. 12 thousand nz people died. And 8 million horses died in ww2.

My Character Strengths

We had to go an a website and do a quiz asking questions about our strengths. A character strength is something that you are good at. These are my character strengths.

1. Humour- I am  good at seeing the funny side of life and making people laugh.

2. Gratitude- I appreciate the small things in life.

3. Love- I listen and show I care and make people feel important so I am really good at building strong relationships.

4. Bravery- I do things even if I am scared and I am  afraid.

5.  Curiosity- I ask alot of questions because I want to know.

ELLA WEST VISIT

Today period 1 Ella west came to our school for a visit and talked to us about how she makes books and how she gets the ideas about them here is two of her books she told us about her it took her about 3 years to make her first book the Thieves. She at least  1000 words each day

Aotearoa History Show

Today we watched the Aotearoa history show about the New Zealand wars. We learnt:



.The maori prophet saw an angel
1862  

. the British soldiers were guarding the land from maori 

. the Europeans killed two young Maori boys 


. by the 1860s the British found out ways to get to them 

. by 1872 the new zealand wars were  nearly over 

 3000 people died in the wars- 2000 were Maori

Matariki is all about celebration, and spending time with family Matariki was also important for agriculture. The coming of Matariki symbolized the harvest festival where the Maori feasted on the crops they had prepared. Matariki is important because it also is the time to restart the Maori calendar.Matariki the Māori New Year - 2020 - Kiwi Families

The New Zealand Land Wars

1 What started the New Zealand land wars?
The maori’s and the british were fighting for land

2 Pākehā numbers were increasing. 
In 1840 there were about 200 pākehā
10 years later, there were about 20,000  pākehā
By the late 1850s there were nearly 60,000 pākehā people, outnumbering the Māori

3 What did the Māori set up to govern their people?

4 Who was the first Māori king?
Pōtatau Te Wherowhero
5 How did Te Tiriti o Waitangi affect the wars? 
There was no effects
6 What did Governor Grey want from the Māori?
They wanted to sell the land of the maori
7 When Governor Grey couldn’t trick the Māori into selling him their land, what was his 
next deceitful plan? 
He wanted to get all the maori killed by europeans
8 What was the result of these lies?
It started in a war
9 How were Māori feeling about Pākehā after these wars?

10 Why did the British send many of their troops home?
Because the maori were winning
